PAM x Clive Davis Institute

Producers Against Misogyny (PAM) teamed up with New York University’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music (CDI) at the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University to host their first songwriting camp. The camp took place at the Institute’s state-of-the-art recording studios in Brooklyn, New York on March 26th.

During the camp, current students and alumni of NYU’s Clive Davis Institute collaborated in small groups, writing with briefs provided by Artist Publishing Group (APG) and Kobalt Music.

The camp was organized by PAM, a student-run organization founded in 2020 by Lily Amiclo and Stella Smyth. PAM has hosted production workshops and Q&As with artists like Jack Antonoff, Weyes Blood, Jacob Collier, Mereba, Linda Perry, and Devonté Hynes. In an effort to infuse popular music with perspectives that are often left out of the mainstream, Amiclo and Smyth saw this songwriting camp as the next logical step.

In a joint statement, Amiclo and Smyth said:

“We’ve wanted to do something like this ever since we started PAM in our freshman year. Before we were really friends, we bonded over being in the small handful of women who came to the Clive Davis Institute with a focus on production. We were mentored by our professor, JD Samson, to disrupt the misogyny embedded in studio culture and make a space for other people who want to create in an equitable environment. Since then, we’ve set our sights on making a tangible change to the ecosystem behind popular music, which is why we’re so excited to be putting some of our favorite writers and producers in the studio together.”
